Over the past two years political economist Jack Rasmus has repeatedly said that the number of unemployed in the US has been about 3 times higher than the official Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. Recently he has also claimed the rate of inflation is three times higher than the official statistics. Along the same lines, this article argues that the number of COVID cases may be up to 30 times higher than what is being reported. The is because of a) the rise of home-testing that goes unreported; b) “pandemic fatigue” in which people don’t bother to be tested at all; c) people who don’t have symptoms; and c) people who don’t want to be tested because they cannot afford to be out of work or school.
