When Michael Harrington founded DSA in the 1950s his anti-communism was his leading point of emphasis as was his support of Israel. Social democracy was his vision and political tendency.
But today there are three tendencies within DSA that are much further left than the social democrats. The author claims that these tendencies control DSA. T he problem with the article is that it doesn’t give the rough percentages of the 120,000 members who are in each tendency. Secondly, it doesn’t describe the differences between the three tendencies. The point of the article seems to be that, lo and behold, DSA is not just a bunch of timid social democrats. There are real communists in the organization.
