How is Iran different from the other West Asian States? For one thing it is among the three highest oil producers in the world. For another Iran, Russia and China are building trade routes that will marginalize the trade routes controlled by Mordor. Also, Iran represents a military threat to Russia’s southern border.
The reason is that if the United States could put a puppet at the head of the Iranian state or break up Iran into ethnic groups. These groups would be able to interfere with Russia’s corridor of trade southwards into access to the Indian Ocean. Then you have boxed in Russia, you have boxed in China, and you have managed to isolate them.
