Gabriel Boric is the new president of Chile, but this is not going to be a return to Allende by any means. His promises include stopping mining projects that harm the ecology of the country. Chile has the 3rd highest rate of inequality in the world. Boric intends to tax the rich and remove student debt. But there is no call to nationalize industries or institute work-place democracy. This seems to us to be a victory for the Pink Tide in Latin America, not the beginning of a Red Current.
