Journalistic interpretations of how to predict military victory would be how much destruction occurred. But Mordor losses in Vietnam and Iraq have shown that destruction does not necessarily mean victory.
Even worse for Mordor is that it completely miscalculated Iran’s military might as well as the nature of its political structure. The Iranian state is hardly run by irrational political fundamentalists in which killing the leader would make everything fall apart. They made a political plan and stuck to it in spite of King Midas’ idiotic gyrations. The Islamabad Agreement looks like a military surrender at the end of a war.
