Among other topics, Thomas Piketty’s new book poses an intriguing question: if so many people have less wealth and so few capitalists have more wealth, why is this allowed to continue? Picketty’s answer, despite his efforts, does not incorporate Marx’s concept of ideologies as being class specific. At no point in his book does he come out in favor of socialism. Rather, he introduces reforms for capitalism. For a book of 1,200 pages, we’d expect a little more depth from a critical economist.
