These days “the market” is a euphemism for capitalism. Capitalists like to present free markets as having always existed in history. But the truth is markets existed in tribal societies which were not capitalist.
Capitalism is the organization of markets under class conditions. The word “free” is added to market as a virtue word to convince people that exploitative relations are really not exploitative. The free market is not free for either consumers or producers. Capitalists who control “free markets” are not producers and consumers themselves. Capitalists control the mechanisms which mediate the relations between producers and consumers. Capitalists promote desires that are not natural and suppress needs that are natural. Capitalists are the tyrants of the free market.
