This a very sympathetic short book review of Michael Hudson’s book Destiny of Civilization. Predictably, Michael attacks finance capital as a destroyer of civilization, not just in the present but in past civilizations as well. Far from thinking that what the Chinese are doing as being the opposite of development in the United States, Michael points out that China’s economic policy is very similar to US protectionist policy foreign policy from 1865 to 1914. What is disappointing is that Pepe did not challenge Michael to specify what his version of socialism is.
