In their book Worker Cooperatives and Deep Democracy the authors did research on 15 countries, with 168 co-operatives all around the world, from India to Brazil to Italy and the United States.
The author stresses the rare combination of a utopian vision with the practicality required by workers to self-manage a co-op when surrounded by hostile, decaying capitalist forces. It is estimated that there are 3 million co-operatives around the world. This is a very inspiring article.
