Myanmar Unions and Workers are on the Front Lines of a General Strike

Here in Yankeedom, with rare exceptions, it is difficult to find labor unions on the front lines of any radical action. At best, they are absent. At worst, the union bureaucrats are cutting deals with the authorities. But in Myanmar workers are on the front lines of this general strike. Striking workers are from many sectors. Railway employees have put a major dent in transportation with 99% of railway workers on strike. Medical workers are on strike in hospitals and health departments. Trade union federations have joined the strike, representing garbage collectors, fire fighters, electricity workers. Teachers’ unions are also in the house!
