Housing Coops In Uruguay: Participatory Living

In this cooperative housing project, members pay roughly half the rent they would pay a landlord. Within the coop people can “trade off” apartments as needs change. Unlike private apartments within which you cannot put up are take down walls, in this housing coop, this can be done subject to community approval. Lastly, if rents cannot be paid because of difficult circumstances, meetings with the board are arranged to work out solutions. No one has to worry about being kicked out.
