In this interview Nacho Gomez speaks candidly about the highs and lows of his and Carla’s 10 year journey with Black Cat Cafe.
On one hand the cafe became a landmark in the vegan, activist and cooperative scenes for its pioneering vegan dishes and dedication to its support of its community and activists. On the other hand, they faced difficulties paying members and staff fairly and had setbacks in trying to attract and retain worker members. Painting co-op closures as failures is shortsighted. In the face of capitalist collapse around them they provided people with jobs for 10 years while teaching young workers that capitalism is not the only way to run a business.
