Russia is a difficult country to place in terms of geographic loyality.
Historically, for the most part it has been rejected by Europe in spite of Peter the Great’s efforts to Europeanize Russia. Yet the culture of Russia is not eastern in the way of China, Japan or even India. This article explains why Russia was historically driven away from the East and why today it is going back.
