The countries that are doing best with COVID-19 are those which have low death rates from the first wave of coronavirus and high carrying capacity in hospitals. Those countries are Japan, Korea and Germany. For most of the west hospitals are in short supply of beds, staff and PPE, thanks to neoliberal cut-backs over decades. Unemployment continues to climb and the fate of children in the global south is harrowing.
