When Marx described the early development of capitalism, he called the early phase “primitive accumulation”. This refers to the process by which artisans and farmers are driven from their land, stripped of their tools and with no independent means of gaining a livelihood are forced to work for capitalists for wages. The same process is going on now in Palestine, where farmers are being kept from their harvests by the Zionist Civilian Security Coordinators (CSCs). By driving Palestinians off their land, it becomes “empty space” for Israeli settlers.
