Zapatistas on the move: using election as leverage for participatory democracy

Rather than either going whole hog and trying to win an election or renouncing elections completely, Zapatistas  are using the Mexican national elections to mobilize the autonomous movement in 523 communities, representing 43 ethnic groups in 25 different states. They are running an indigenous woman as an independent candidate for president. The real body of power is called the Indigenous Government Council.
