In his great book The Seventeen Contradictions of Capitalism David Harvey lays out the many ways in which capitalism is in conflict with itself. But why is it right now that capitalism is not just conflicted but in crisis?
For one thing, we have the increasing ratio of finance to industrial capital which can create bubbles that we are now seeing in capitalists’ investigation into AI . Secondly, capitalism invests in war which destroys productive forces. Both financial and military capitalism are investments taken away from investment in infrastructures which are falling apart.
