“Why do you white people have all the cargo” asked a villager of Jared Diamond in the opening section of his book Guns, Germs and Steel. Bourgeois economists have long trotted out their own explanations for why some countries are rich and the other countries poor. Among them are: a) they are inefficient; b) they are lazy; c) the climate is too hot to motivate people to work hard; or d) they have diseases that drain people’s energy. These capitalists refuse to acknowledge that the countries of the west are rich because they have subjugated, tortured, tricked and stolen the land from the natives.
