Brazilian truckers, upset by the rising cost of diesel, are blocking roads, shutting down transportation for a week. Increasing numbers of supermarket shelves are empty. 1,000 highways have been blocked in 25 of the 26 states in Brazil. What is encouraging is that the strike has started and been sustained by the truckers themselves through self-organizing. No unions were involved. Also encouraging is that they have held out for a full week and the Brazilian population, according to this article, has been supportive.
