For those of you who don’t know the story, the Ford Foundation, the most center-left of the think-tanks, is infested with CIA agents. Their purpose? To create a “controllable opposition” that was anti-communist.
They set up programs for mobilizing people around race issues, independent of class. This was begun in 1950, five years before the civil rights movement began. Are we saying the CIA created the culture of anti-racism? No, but they steered it in a direction that would make it seem to be hostile to communism and class struggle.
