This is a long sweeping piece which contrasts the machinations of the ruling class up until the end of the 19th century to what went on the the 20th century. Two world wars have allowed the British Empire to play countries off each other. But 21st century events have made this less likely. This is one reason an ineffective propaganda machine is not working very well in the West.
