In world-systems theory the world is divided into the core, the periphery and the semi-periphery.
The temptation is to think the core countries have absolute power, the semi-periphery have moderate power and the periphery have the least power. This article challenges that scenario a bit by claiming that sometimes the tail wags the dog as in the case of Zionists vs Hamas. Also, traditional political alliances are breaking down as the capitalist world-system creates a Hobbesian “war of all against all”. Lastly, military victories don’t always lead to political triumphs.
