This is a terrific synopsis of a memoir written about the real history of Yankee involvement in Afghanistan. Brzezinski is usually presented, like Kissinger, as being an international realist. But in this retelling of the history of Afghanistan, Brzezinski was acting very much like a neoconservative, planning to draw Russia into a war BEFORE the Russians went into Afghanistan. As it has turned out, Afghanistan was the Yankees’ second Vietnam.
