Independent truckers on the docks of Oakland are fighting to not be phased out of their jobs by automation. They are supported in this by dockworkers who refuse to cross the picket line. These owner-operators constitute two-thirds of California port truckers. These events are part of a larger movement of trucker militancy which has occurred in Germany and South Korea. Sadly, the once militant ILWU has not been very supportive of the truckers.
