Michael’s definition of a failed state is one in which a state’s own economy is not able to provide goods and services for its population. When this is the case it must fight wars in order to sustain the right to exploit the people and land on the capitalist periphery. When you examine the extreme weather produced by capitalism and the inability of the state to provide guidance through the pandemic, we see a society in trouble. But when you add the unpopularity of both right-wing parties, infrastructural decay and the incompetency of capitalists to understand their own crises, we have failed far beyond repair.
