Ten years prior to the fall of the Twin Powers in 2001 the Soviet Union fell. The Atlanticists celebrated. Books were written about the end of history. Samuel Huntington dismissed economic explanations for world political dynamics and claimed Islam to be the real enemy of the West.
Yet once the United States attacked Iraq in 2001 it amounted to an acceleration in the decline of the US which began in the 1970s. The Great Recession which hammered the US occurred eight years later as did the rise of BRICS. No matter who is responsible for 911 the result has been 25 years of steep decline for the U.S.
