Jonathan Cook makes a wonderful presentation of how the news works to sway us. First of all, propaganda is not a monolithic model. It allows “free competition” between two sides. Secondly, propaganda at its best is not based on lies. It is based on an interpretation of facts. Propaganda also works by misdirection and omission. It only works by lies and deception when it is desperate. It even works in the ways in which the active and passive voices are used in sentences.
