This is a wonderful lecture by Caleb Maupin on the connections between anti-communist socialists and the CIA beginning in the 1950s.
As it turns out, Michael Harrington, the founder of DSA, and the Frankfort school were both connected indirectly to the CIA front, Congress for Cultural Freedom. There is a fascinating overlap between what became of the neocons in the right and the anti-communist socialists on the left.
