It may be difficult to imagine New Yorkers cooperating, but in her new book Annemarie Sammartino traces the history of Co-op City from its initial planning stages in the mid 1960s through the early 1990s. This  includes a major rent strike, the assertion of community control and race and class dynamics within the coop.
