In the history of capitalism, tracing it back to Italy, Holland and England, the signs of decline of leading capitalist countries are the same – greater investment in military and finance capital. Signs of ascendance are the rise of technology, the building of infrastructures and investments in research and development. This article describes how this scenario is playing itself out in the rising fortunes of China and the decline of the US empire.
