When psychologists talk about the brain and intelligence they talk about the brain as if it was unconnected to the hand. After all, how can the hand be intelligent?
150 years ago Fredrick Engels pointed out how the hand, specifically opposable thumbs in tool-making, was most responsible in making the transition from apes to humans. This article describes how brain evolution is inseparable from manipulating tools with the hand.
