The author of this article, Michael Albert, is somewhere between anarchism and council communism in our estimation. In this article he seems to be reflecting on being part of a book project in the early 1970s.
The parts that are his current thinking come after the paragraphs that begin with “I interject”. The points we think are most interesting are the ones in which he claims Leninists fail to account for the psychology of party members and workers – their biases, habits and delusions that get in their way. He also points out that Leninist practice has resulted in Leninist sects rather than mass parties. His last point is the failure of Leninists to engage workers as human beings rather than objects.
