In practical terms, the Chinese call for new security measures in West Asia involve greater regional dialogue among Arab states – Iran, Türkiye – as opposed to external dependence on major powers.
It also calls for better mechanisms for crisis management and military communication, stronger regional responsibility for maritime and energy security and reduced reliance on foreign military bases. Why is China proposing this now? This is because of how quickly Mordor’s war on Iran has spread to other gulf states, many of whom are dependent on the US. In terms of national self interest China has invested heavily in Middle Eastern infrastructure, energy, ports, industrial zones and logistics. These need to be protected.
