19th Century Worker Cultural Socialism in Finland and Ukraine

in the 19th century, one of the things that made socialism work so well was the presence of working class cultural institutions which met workers needs. In this panel discussion we’re told how Finnish and Ukrainian migrants took care of each other through the organizing of athletics, theatre, education and ethnic dancing. The presence of these cultural institutions embedded in workers lives made political organizing a very natural extension of everyday life.
