Worker Self-Management in the Spanish Revolution

The three years between 1936 and 1939 in Spain saw the greatest scale of workplace democracy the world has experienced in the West.

This article describes how the radical labor union, the CNT, built workers’ anarcho-communism from the bottom up, from the local to the national level. This format includes general assemblies, mandated delegates, rotated and strictly recallable. Two and one half million workers were in the union and just as many were on the farms.
