Many people who lived through the 1960s think that the counterculture movement was something new and unprecedented. But the reality is that over 120 years ago anarchists, artists, writers and occultists were drawn to Ascona Switzerland to participate in a society set up to reject most of the tenets of modern civilization. Sun worship, nudity and vegetarianism was the order of the day.
