Perhaps the major function of NATO’s creation in 1954 was to protect Europe from communism. But since the Soviet Union ended NATO it has lost its major justification as an anti-communist organization.
Also, since the eruption of King Midas on the political scene, NATO has lost its foundation member. Some NATO countries have refused to be bullied by the United States about both Ukraine and Iran. Yet for very short-sighted reasons the Europeans take their experience of being bullied by the United States and project it on to Russia. So will NATO continue in a weakened form?
