The sun set on the British Empire after World War II. What has remained of the once mighty lion is now a squealing chihuahua. Its days of playing off Germany and France and its days of turning Russia and Germany against each other are over.
This strategy of Mackinder has backfired because the heartland of Russia and China has united. England is completely dependent on the United States and its own economy may be the weakest in Europe.
