Taiwan Microchips Head to Mordor: Will They Catch up With China?

Over the next five years, the production of microchips in Arizona is projected to bring in roughly 6,000 high paying jobs as well as 40,000 construction jobs to build up the complex which is 1,100 acres.  The organizers claim it will add roughly $200 billion to Arizona’s economy and indirectly to the national economy.

The problem is that forecasters say the project will be twice as expensive as the cost of producing microchips in Taiwan. Also, the United States does not have  all the scientific personnel to do the work. They will have to go to Taiwan to be trained. Can this project catch up with the Chinese? We don’t think so. China will be on to a new generation of microchips which will make the microchips in the US out of date.
