Neither the State Nor Utopia: Towards Popular Assemblies and Direct Democracy

This is a very interesting article which contrasts  state controlled socialism on one hand to utopianism which fetishizes the future on the other. What it proposes as an alternative is popular assemblies though direct democracy.

This is based on Murray Bookchin’s neighborhood assemblies and municipalism. We don’t believe the state can be eliminated and we are not anarchists. But this article is still provocative.
