May Day, as many of you know, started out as a radical workers’ holiday in 1890 the United States. Capitalists realized the danger of having a workers’ holiday and moved it to “Labor Day” in September. This disassociated workers in the US from their own history and separated them from other workers around the world who continue to celebrate it on May Day.
Meanwhile, May Day continued as a workers’ holiday spreading around the world. This article shows some of the highlights from France to Spain, Germany, Italy, Chile and to the Philippines.
