Is There a Global Movement for Cooperatives?

From a political point of view, co-ops are seen as quaint, romantic associations but they don’t have the organizational capacity to sustain themselves at a regional, or surely a national level. How true is this?

Additionally, co-ops are split between those who work in cooperatives with no intention of overthrowing capitalism and those who see cooperatives as an alternative to capitalism. Furthermore,  co-ops around the world have different cultures in which they are embedded. A co-op in Italy will not be the same as a co-op in India. Lastly, co-ops in Italy have lasted 200 years. This will be a different experience from a start-up co-op in Peru. How can co-ops overcome these obstacles?
