We have agreed with Michael Hudson, Jack Rasmus and Michael Roberts that it is important to make a distinction between profits made on industry vs profits made on finance. This article systematically goes through the different types of financial markets from currency speculation, to derivatives, to shadow banking, vulture funds and high-frequency trading. This is vitally important for understanding the gap between the Wall Street Stock exchange profits on the one hand and a steeply declining real (industrial) economy on the other.
