It appears that African Nations, especially Nigeria and Ghana, can smell the rotting corpse of the West. They are withdrawing their gold reserves from them for a number of reasons.
First, the instability of Western economies. Second, the recent practice of the West stealing or freezing gold reserves in Russia and Venezuela. Lastly, they have the backing of Russia and China for making this move.
