In the past France has had huge demonstrations lasting almost two years such as the Yellow Jackets yet Macron is still in power. Demonstrations by themselves aren’t enough. An indefinite general strike is necessary. Mélenchon does not have the backbone to stand up and offer himself as a new leader. Neither can workers rely on trade union bureaucrats. This article argues for the formation of general assemblies and workplace committees – and this is already happening. What is missing is an analysis of Le Pen and her movement.
